A beach club with a 360-degree panoramic view over the rooftops of the Old Town, neighborhood squares with laid-back cafés, craft beer bars, and the legendary clubs where Lena once danced and where Fury in the Slaughterhouse and the Scorpions launched their careers: Hanover has plenty of cool hangouts for young city travelers. In the lively city center of Lower Saxony’s capital, people have always met at the historic Kröpcke Clock or “unterm Schwanz”—that is, at the equestrian statue in front of the main train station. This is where the major shopping streets run, inviting visitors to go shopping.

Following the "Red Thread" through the city

The "Red Thread," a painted line on the pavement, winds its way through the heart of the city, leading to the most important sights. With a handy brochure, you can tailor your city tour to your own preferences: you can take breaks at inviting ice cream parlors whenever you like and still make sure you don’t miss a thing. A must-do is taking the inclined elevator up to the dome of the New City Hall: from the top, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the green city. At the world’s largest shooting festival in July, tradition meets modernity: Hundreds of thousands of visitors enjoy themselves on carousels, in party tents, and during the traditional shooters’ parade through the city center. The Maschseefest in early August, with its unique maritime atmosphere right in the heart of the city, is Lower Saxony’s largest folk festival. Every year for 19 days, it invites visitors to enjoy cocktail bars, live music, and fun for kids, along with sports activities and a variety of culinary delights around Hanover’s Haussee.
