Ahoy Maschseefest 2016: Come aboard for a trip around the world!

For nine days, visitors to Northern Germany’s largest folk festival will have the chance to embark on a culinary and artistic voyage around the world.

You can look forward to the culinary highlights of this international dining concept, free open-air concerts, exciting water activities, and an engaging program of children’s and cabaret entertainment. Europe’s tallest mobile observation tower, the Maschsee Skyliner, stands at 81 meters and offers a magnificent view of Lake Maschsee and the sights of Lower Saxony’s state capital. New perspectives guaranteed!

Once again this year, the Maschseefest is ready to take you on a culinary journey around the world, visiting all kinds of different countries. Under the motto “Ahoy Maschseefest 2016: come aboard for a trip around the world!” the festival will feature cuisines from the Far East, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Germany, and the Caribbean. The chefs are delighted to welcome their passengers aboard the Maschseefest with traditional national dishes, exotic drinks, and delicious cocktails.

After this culinary journey around the world, it’s time for a musical world tour! The program features a wide variety of concert highlights, with acts from countries all over the globe: on the Maschsee Stage, Radio Tropical, Son del Nene, Juliano Rossi, and others will get you in the holiday spirit. At the Temple Bar, the Irish spirit is in full swing, with bands like The Keltics and The Irish Bastards.

In addition to the widely beloved Lotto King Karl, Het Löwenbastion will also feature local stars such as the band Terry Hoax, along with many other musical highlights. Country star Gunter Gabriel and top-notch cover bands like Mariuzz and Grönland will also help set the mood at the Maschseequelle.

New on Wednesday: Radio station NDR 1 Niedersachsen takes the reins on the Maschsee Stage! With Jamie-Lee (Germany’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm), this station has already secured an absolute highlight for the opening night. During the festival weekends, three local radio stations—FFN, Antenne Niedersachsen, and RADIO 21—will once again be at the helm. First up, FFN will present the pop-rock band Stanfour (July 29) as a musical introduction. On the second weekend, Antenne Niedersachsen invites you first to a party, and then to the thrilling Crazy Crossing pier-to-pier race (July 7–8). But the Maschsee itself remains the star of the festival and draws attention with exciting events: in addition to Crazy Crossing, the Torch Swim and the NKR Duck Fun(d)racing will take place. And RADIO 21 will guide you through the final weekend with a rock program.
