Special relationships: The city partnership between Hannover and Poznań

Old Market Square in Poznań

Partnership The partnership between Poznań and Hannover was established 37 years ago, on October 29, 1979. Today, many ties actively connect the communities of both cities. For example, the Hannover Fire Department, Hannover University, the Fuchsbau Festival, the Fête de la Musique festival, and numerous associations engage in close cooperation with partners in Poznań. The city councils and administrations of both cities also maintain good relations and exchange experiences in the field of municipal work, as was recently the case with housing management and pro-family policies.

Nature and tranquility—as well as the perks of big-city life

Maschsee Festival Hanover

The high quality of life in Hanover is evident at every turn: high-caliber cultural and sporting events, an impressive number of museums, fantastic shopping opportunities on one of Germany’s largest pedestrian zones, as well as the famous Royal Gardens in Herrenhausen and the picturesque Old Town. The Royal Gardens serve as the venue for the International Fireworks Competition, during which the best teams from around the world showcase their skills from May through August. On September 2, 2017, the Polish team SUREX will compete for the championship title.

Legendary events, such as the Maschsee Lake Festival or the world’s largest marksmen’s parade, consistently draw huge crowds of tourists and locals. The state of Lower Saxony is famous for its horses and endless bike paths, which wind along rivers or through the highlands of the Harz Mountains. But lovers of wellness and city tourism will also find a rich and interesting array of options here. Lower Saxony, located in northwestern Germany, is the second-largest federal state in terms of area. And with over 41 million overnight visitors annually, it ranks fifth among Germany’s most popular states. More than 10% of visitors are foreigners.
