Visit the centre of Europe and experience one of Hannover’s numerous highlights – the Maschsee Lake Festival

In the wake of the Brexit vote in the UK, the Hannover Marketing and Tourism company (HMTG) is launching a campaign to promote the city as a tourism and business location and is wooing British visitors.

Welcome to Hannover!

Located in the centre of Europe, home to major industrial fairs, with ideal infrastructure connections, a great variety of leisure activities and an affordable, yet high standard of residential properties combined with a unique proximity to nature – just some of many good reasons to visit the capital of Lower Saxony. Direct flights from Hannover Airport and the ICE rail network provide direct links to many destinations in the United Kingdom.

Baroque garden art and sightseeing highlights

The Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen along with the recently rebuilt Herrenhausen Palace form Hannover’s most famous attraction and one of the most important Baroque gardens in Europe. The 17th century garden displays a dazzling array of romantic fountains, exotic plants and striking sculptures. And there are plenty of other attractions that make Hannover worth the trip: take the sloping parabola lift up to the dome of the New Town Hall, where you have a splendid view over the whole city or visit the historic Old Town with its half-timbered houses. In addition, fun-filled events such as the world’s biggest markmen's funfair and the Christmas markets draw numerous visitors to Hannover.

The green City

City forests, parks and recreational areas make Hannover one of the greenest cities in Germany, where you can experience nature and at the same time enjoy the benefits of an urban lifestyle. The Eilenriede is a tempting, lusciously green oasis: with 642 hectares, the “green lung” of the city is nearly twice as big as New York’s Central Park. Lake Maschsee, too, features unspoiled natural habitats and recreational activities in close proximity to the city and becomes the stage for a mega event in the summer – the Lake Maschsee Festival.

Ahoy 2016 Maschsee Lake Festival: Come on board for a voyage around the world!

Holiday feelings in the city, a seaside atmosphere in the heart of the town. From 27 July to 14 August the holiday season is given an international stage around the shores of Hannover’s very own lake at the 31st Maschsee Lake Festival. For 19 days, visitors to the largest public open-air party in northern Germany can sail around the world on a culinary and artistic voyage. The main attractions include delicious specialities offered by international caterers, free open-air concerts, exciting activities on the lake, diverse cabaret acts as well as a fun-packed programme for kids. From the 81-metre high mobile “Maschsee Skyline” observation tower – the highest in Europe – there is a great view over the lake and Hannover’s famous landmarks – we guarantee an entirely new perspective!
This year, too, the Maschsee Lake Festival is ready to embark on a culinary journey around the world. Under the motto: “Ahoy 2016 Maschsee Lake Festival: Come on board for a voyage around the world!” the ports of call include the kitchens of the Far East, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Germany and the Caribbean. The chefs are looking forward to welcoming the passengers on board the Maschsee Lake Festival with typical national cuisine, exotic drinks and delicious cocktails. But the focus isn’t just on food. It’s a musical voyage around the world, too.

Culture, arts and leisure

Did you know? Since 2014 Hannover bears the title of UNESCO City of Music and takes its place in the international UNESCO network. The opera and drama sections of Hannover State Theatre are leading lights in the German theatre environment. Unique exhibits and spectacular exhibitions have earned Hannover a reputation as a city of art and museums. The famous Herrenhausen Gardens are also a superb setting for prestigious open-air cultural events. The baroque gardens provide a perfect venue for the arts festival KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen as well as for the International Fireworks Competition or open-air theatre performances.

Trade fair and conference venue in the heart of Europe

Hannover can look back on more than 60 years as a leading international trade fair location. The city boasts the largest and one of the most modern exhibition centers in the world, with more than 460,000 m² indoor and 58,000 m² outdoor space. Flagship technology fairs such as the CeBIT and HANNOVER MESSE are major innovation hubs. Other leading trade fairs such as DOMOTEX, LIGNA, BIOTECHNICA, AGRITECHNICA, CeMAT and IAA Commercial Vehicles regularly demonstrate the important role that this location plays as a stimulant for the economy. Furthermore Hannover Region also plays a leading role as a congress and conference venue and can offer a wide choice of locations.
