The Hannover Region is a vital hub within Europe’s passenger, freight, and goods transport infrastructure: highways, rail networks, an airport, and inland waterways provide optimal connections to national and international economic zones.

This infrastructure is complemented by one of Germany’s best local public transportation systems, including a highly integrated transportation network comprising 170 bus routes and 12 light rail transit (LRT) lines, as well as 9 regional and 9 commuter rail lines serving 1,900 stops to ensure excellent connections everywhere. Hannover’s local public transit system (GVH) recorded a record number of passengers in 2016—216.2 million. The high and rising ridership figures underscore Hannover’s importance as a transportation hub.
