Hello Europe!

2023 International Fireworks Competition

“Hello Europe – Welcome to Hannover”: Under this motto, the International Fireworks Competition will kick off the new season on May 20.

Welcome to Germany

In 2023, the 31st International Fireworks Competition will focus on Germany and our European neighbors. So, under the motto “Brilliant as always – closer than ever,” we say: Hello, Herzlich Willkommen, Salut, Grüezi, and Servus! As usual, each fireworks display will consist of a standard compulsory piece—in keeping with the theme, an excerpt from Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” the European anthem—followed by an individual freestyle performance. Tailored to the home countries of the respective teams, the approximately 11,000 visitors can look forward to a country-specific supporting program featuring street performances by Stelzen-Art, the Scharniertheater, and the ensemble “Kroft Les Crêpes.” In the Garden Theater and on the rehearsal stage, bands such as Brazzo Brazzone, Me and Ms Jacobs, Marion & Sobo Band, and Bella Bonza will help pass the time until the fireworks begin. Circus Salto, the duo “Fritz and Frieda,” and Monsieur Momo will delight visitors with juggling, magic, and acrobatics on the children’s lawn. Culinary delights also take you on a mini-tour of the participating countries with traditional foods and drinks offered at various stands in the Großer Garten.

Hans Nolte, Managing Director of Hannover Marketing and Tourism and Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH, on the start of this year’s competition: “I am very much looking forward to the unique shows by the German and European participants. We have already sold many tickets to local fans who want to support their team here in Hannover. With the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen providing the perfect backdrop for culture and the international character of the fireworks competition, the Region Hannover presents itself as an attractive tourist destination in the heart of Europe.”

Hello Austria

One-of-a-kind pieces from the fireworks competition, created by Taschentalent

The intercultural sewing project “Taschentalent” has recycled the flags from the International Fireworks Competition over the past few years. The result is a collection of creative, one-of-a-kind pieces featuring stunning fireworks motifs from past competitions. The bags and pouches, available in various sizes, are creatively embellished with colorful details and offer plenty of space for groceries, sports gear, or cosmetics. With these products, the Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH, in collaboration with the “Taschentalent” project from Wedemark, is setting an example for integration and sustainability. The bags (starting at €13.95) are now available at the Tourist Info Hannover at Ernst-August-Platz 8 and in the online shop.

Tip for fireworks fans

The limited-edition collector’s tickets and a (small remaining allocation) of season tickets are still available exclusively at the Tourist Information Office at Ernst-August-Platz 8.
For anyone who would like to combine a visit to the International Fireworks Competition with an overnight stay in Hannover, Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH has put together the “Hannover Explosive” experience package. The package includes one night’s stay in a 3- or 4-star hotel with breakfast, as well as a ticket to the 31st International Fireworks Competition, bookable online starting at €89 per person.

Radio21 will be streaming all five events live in collaboration with the Neue Presse.
