A tour around Benther Berg

The beautiful Calenberger Land region, home to Benther Berg, is perfect for hiking.

Discover the beautiful Calenberger Land region, home to Benther Berg, which at 173 meters is the highest point in the Hannover area. The village of Benthe itself and its immediate surroundings also have a very special charm.

A suggested tour around Benther Berg
You can start your hike or bike ride on Lenther Chaussee at the northern end of Benther Berg and walk along the ridge of Benther Berg, passing ancient burial mounds.
On the Benther Berg Nature Trail, you can learn about the local flora and fauna. With a little luck, you might spot or hear a black woodpecker. Then hike through the village of Benthe, past old villas, farmhouses, a chapel, and a windmill, to the legendary Sieben-Trappen-Steine in the district of the same name, a monument to greater honesty. Then hike east of Benthe past the Eschteich natural monument and the green Empelde potash slag heap (with a vineyard on the southern slope), a testament to Ronnenberg’s mining history, back to the starting point.

Alternatively, you can start the hike at the final stop of tram line 9 in Empelde and walk along the Grüner Ring through Empelde, past the green slag heap, to Benther Berg.

You can discover the cultural, historical, and natural highlights of the Calenberger Land region on custom-designed routes throughout the Ronnenberg area. You
can plan your own discovery tours, for example in the Ihme lowlands between Ihme-Roloven and Vörie, using the handy cycling guide “Ronnenberg Tour” (available at gift shops and bookstores in Ronnenberg or by phone at 0511/4600351).
The “Ronnenberg Tour” cycling guide contains maps with seven local tours through each district or neighborhood. You’ll find stories and historical information about many places and sights.
