From hut to hut in the Deister

You don’t necessarily have to go to the Alps to go on a hut-to-hut hike. Such a tour is also possible in the Deister, though the huts there aren’t staffed and you can’t spend the night in them. The shelters in the forest are perfect for taking a break with a packed lunch and are located in picturesque spots. A “hut hike” like this is recommended along the route from Wennigser Mark to Bredenbeck (or Steinkrug) in the eastern Deister.

Nature experiences on the hut hike

This hike winds through the forests of five landowners. The trail is varied, well-marked, and of moderate difficulty, offering a glimpse into the predominantly mixed deciduous forest, which features new reforestation efforts and attempts to introduce new tree species to the Deister. Hikers can feel the power of the trees and the beauty of nature in the Deister. Along the trails, you can still see many remnants of the area’s former coal mining history.

You can find more information here.

The Norddeister is easily accessible by S-Bahn and bus. You can use the Regiobus to get to and from this hut hike.
