The Calenberg monasteries

The monasteries of Barsinghausen, Mariensee, Marienwerder, Wennigsen, and Wülfinghausen, located in the former Principality of Calenberg, were founded at the beginning of the 13th century. With the exception of the Mariensee Monastery, whose community followed the Rule of the Cistercian Order, they were all Augustinian convents.
