Obergut Lenthe with Siemens

The Obergut Lenthe in Gehrden is a historic manor and, at the same time, an important site commemorating the history of technology. The estate, which has been owned by the von Lenthe family since the 13th century, is one of the most traditional estates in the Hanover region.

The Obergut holds special significance as the birthplace of Werner von Siemens. The inventor and entrepreneur, who is considered the founder of modern electrical engineering, was born here in 1816. Today, the building is open to the public as a small museum and vividly illustrates key milestones in his life as well as his technical innovations.

A memorial stone and a plaque on the grounds also serve as reminders of Siemens and his connection to the town. The historic courtyard complex itself evolved from a medieval moated castle and has been expanded and renovated several times over the centuries.
