Ottomar-von-Reden Park in Gehrden

The origins of Ottomar-von-Reden-Park in Gehrden date back to 1590. The park, originally a manor park, was laid out in its present form around 1780 by Friedrich-Otto von Reden. Just over 50 years ago, Ottomar von Reden (1888–1959), mayor of Gehrden, bequeathed the park—covering more than three hectares—to the district of Hannover as a foundation. Today, parts of the park, with its tree population that is in some cases centuries old, are listed as historic monuments. In 2007, the project office of the Hannover Garden Region commissioned a restoration and utilization plan that also provides for the careful reconstruction of the historic garden and—above all—is intended to ensure its long-term maintenance.

The collection of valuable, mostly mature solitary trees in Ottomar-von-Reden-Park is to be gradually expanded into an "arboretum," a collection of rare trees and shrubs. This is one of the development goals for the former estate park in Gehrden.
