The City Museum has been located in the old brewery at 15 Dammstraße since 1975 and is run on a volunteer basis by a committee from the Gehrden branch of the Heimatbund. Spread across two floors of exhibition space, it houses an extensive collection covering prehistory, the history and development of the city of Gehrden and its surrounding villages, local clubs, the fire department, traditional crafts, and the Calenberger Land region.
A key focus of the exhibition is the discovery of graves of regional significance, unearthed during excavation work in April 1997 in the Burgberg area, which date back to the Merovingian period of the 6th and 7th centuries.
Other focal points include a complete smithy from Everloh, a carpenter's workshop, a shoemaker's workshop and many exhibits relating to the rural environment.
