Icon from the museum
The Icon Museum in Neustadt am Rübenberge offers a unique glimpse into the religious and cultural world of icons. Located in the historic “Storchenhaus” right next to the Liebfrauenkirche in the town center, it combines exhibitions and history in one place.
The museum opened in 2007 and displays more than 250 works from various centuries. In addition to traditional Russian icons from the 17th and 18th centuries, the museum also exhibits numerous works by iconographer Barbara Teubner, who has had a significant influence on the museum.
Icons are considered religious images in Orthodox Christianity, but their significance extends beyond their function as objects of worship. They also symbolize a connection between the Eastern and Western Churches and thus hold special cultural and spiritual significance.
The exhibition not only explores art-historical aspects but also provides insight into the religious context and traditions of icon painting. The building’s historic atmosphere creates a serene setting that further enhances the impact of the exhibits.
This makes the Icon Museum a special place for art, history, and spirituality in the Hannover Holiday Region.
