Lighting Concept - Right in the Heart of Downtown

The idea stems from the creation of a unique lighting concept for the entire downtown area of Neustadt a. Rbge. The Neustadt lighting concept is a holistic approach and was developed specifically for Neustadt’s architecture. The goal is to achieve a harmonious appearance for the downtown area and thereby enhance the quality of life there.

What makes this project
unique is that it does not use any streetlight poles at all. In this lighting concept, spotlights are mounted on building facades below the rooflines to provide general illumination.
Color filters can be attached to the spotlights to enable temporary event lighting in a wide variety of colors throughout the entire downtown area.

Visual Guidance
Highlighting important building facades, landmarks, monuments, church steeples, and fountains creates a visual pathway. This requires variations in brightness between streets, squares, and buildings. The lighting is therefore intended to facilitate orientation by making the urban landscape more “readable.”

Identity
The downtown area has its own unique character. The Neustadt lighting concept helps to highlight and enhance this characteristic.

Atmosphere
The downtown area has its own unique character. The lighting is designed to evoke positive feelings while visitors are in the city, making them want to spend time there.

Service
: In order to assess people’s behavior in public spaces from a safe distance, it is essential that pedestrians be clearly visible to one another, especially after dark.
The perception of the entire urban space plays a crucial role in well-being and the sense of safety in the city. Good visual orientation, even for visitors, requires the illumination of the entire street space, which also includes the lighting of building facades.

Vision

Using artificial lighting to create a distinctive image offers great potential for differentiation and helps build a city’s identity. To generate enthusiasm for this idea throughout the vast Neustadt region (covering an area of 350 square kilometers) with its 33 districts and villages, and to establish a recognizable identity, a meeting was held in February 2007 with all local mayors and the Neustadt City Marketing Association. The association offered to cover the planning costs for selected properties in the villages as well. These will include buildings such as churches, community centers, museums, historic buildings, etc.
