For strong intergenerational solidarity

Multigenerational homes strengthen intergenerational bonds and encourage dialogue between generations.
They serve as a hub and resource center for family-oriented services such as parenting and family counseling, self-help groups, and health promotion.
For this reason, multigenerational homes receive funding from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth.

Since October 2003, people of all ages have been gathering at Lower Saxony’s first multigenerational house in Pattensen, which was funded by the state government in Hanover.

Goals and Services
The Pattens Multi-Generational House is run by the local association “MOBILE.” The association’s goal is to bring education, social interaction, and care under one roof.
In addition to family classes, self-help groups, and health counseling, for example, it offers an “Open Meeting” at Café MOBILE and a daycare center.
A “surrogate grandparent service” has even been established, which connects child-loving older adults with families as surrogate grandmothers or grandfathers.

Development of the Multigenerational House
Thanks to the dedicated volunteer efforts of its staff, the MOBILE House in Pattens has become a model project for multigenerational housing.
With support from the state government of Lower Saxony, more than twenty multigenerational houses have now been established.
