St. George’s Church in Jeinsen is an important historic building in the Region Hannover and continues to be a defining feature of the town center to this day. The church’s origins date back to the 12th century, making it one of the oldest religious buildings in the area.
Particularly noteworthy is a Carolingian column capital dating from between 800 and 900 AD, which is located in the tower hall. It is considered one of the oldest examples of Christianization in the Calenberger Land region.
The current church building was constructed in the late 18th century, though the medieval tower was preserved. The combination of Romanesque, Gothic, and later architectural elements reflects the building’s long history and gives the church its distinctive character.
Inside, the church features furnishings dating from the time of its construction, including a pulpit altar and a historic organ. The church remains an active center of community life to this day and is used for worship services and cultural events.
As such, St. George’s Church in Jeinsen combines architectural diversity with regional history and is an important part of the cultural landscape in Pattensen.
