Springe Hunting Lodge/Saupark

Hunting lodge

The hunting lodge (with its interesting museum Natur-Jagd-Kultur and concerts) and the Saupark are always worth a visit.

The hunting lodge of the royal family
Between 1838 and 1842, the King of Hannover had a palace built on the northern slope of the Kleiner Deister. The royal family stayed there whenever the royal hunt was called.

The court hunts
The royal hunting ground was the Springe Wild Boar Reserve, which, following a court ruling against the king in 1835 regarding damage caused by game, had to be enclosed by a 16-kilometer-long wall. Royal hunts continued to be held every two years even after 1866; Emperor Wilhelm II, in particular, enjoyed coming here.

The hunting lodge today
Today, the hunting lodge has been freshly renovated and its wall and ceiling paintings shine in new splendor. In the Imperial Hall, you can marvel at the original furnishings, characterized by the imperial taste of the turn of the century.

An interesting exhibition about native animals can be seen on the first floor of the castle.
