The town square, Springe’s “parlor,” is surrounded by charming half-timbered houses. Here, “Heinrich, the Night Watchman” keeps watch over the goings-on. Many buildings reflect different eras, as the town of Springe looks back on a history spanning more than 900 years. A highlight of the city tour is Haus Peters on the market square, with its rich wood carvings; it was built starting in 1619 in the Weser Renaissance style.

In front of it, the Marienbrunnen fountain, featuring the "wooden reader," gurgles gently. In addition to the sights, the lively weekly market, which takes place every Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., draws visitors to the city. Here, cyclists can not only find the perfect refreshment but also enjoy the bustling atmosphere against a historic backdrop.

As a state-recognized resort town, Springe offers its guests and residents a wide range of activities. A shopping trip takes you past numerous boutiques and specialty shops; charming restaurants invite you to take a break; and on warm days, outdoor cafés liven up the scene.

Don't miss it: In the “Zum Oberntor” pedestrian zone, various melodies ring out from the bell tower, each suited to the season. The carillon plays daily 5 minutes before 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. The Saupark Springe is a wooded area surrounded by a 16-kilometer-long, two-meter-high wall. Here, the Guelph kings, the German emperor, and Europe’s aristocracy used to go hunting.

Nestled in the heart of the Saupark is the hunting lodge, which was built between 1838 and 1842 according to plans by court architect Laves. Events are regularly held in its magnificent halls. The hunting lodge concerts in the Kaisersaal are renowned far beyond the state’s borders. The hunting horn competition, held every two years, is an unforgettable experience.

The bison enclosure, also located in Saupark, offers a fascinating glimpse into the animal kingdom. In this scenic wildlife park, visitors can encounter over 100 native wildlife species. Bison, moose, primitive wild horses, wolves, lynx, native deer species, many bird species, and even bears and wolves live here in their natural habitats.
