Wackerwinkel Housing Development

The two-post timber-framed house in the Wackerwinkel neighborhood is a rarity.

The hamlet of Wackerwinkel in the municipality of Uetze is one of the region’s most distinctive historic sites. This small hamlet, consisting of just a few farmsteads, still offers a glimpse into rural life as it was in centuries past.

The centerpiece is a rare two-post timber-framed house dating from 1596. This hall-and-post house is one of the oldest buildings in the region and vividly illustrates the construction methods of the time, when people and animals lived under the same roof. The large, hall-like entrance hall forms the center of the house and is framed by massive wooden posts.

The historic farmstead is an important testament to rural life and work and has been extensively restored. Today, it serves as a venue for cultural events and can be toured as part of guided tours.

With its blend of history, architecture, and rural surroundings, the Siedlung Wackerwinkel is an interesting destination for day trips in the Hannover Holiday Region.

Just give the Heimatbund Uetze a call (Tel. 05173/7752), and the wooden gates will open for visitors.
