Raised bog
The Bissendorfer Moor in Wedemark is one of the most significant natural areas in the Region Hannover. As a largely intact raised bog, it offers a unique glimpse into a rare type of landscape and serves as an important sanctuary for numerous plant and animal species.
The bog is located east of Resse and covers an area of approximately 6.5 square kilometers. It is one of the most valuable raised bogs in Lower Saxony and has been a protected nature reserve since 1971.
The area is characterized by its vast, open moorland landscape, featuring distinctive vegetation such as sphagnum mosses, cottongrass, and heather. The Bissendorfer Moor is several thousand years old and evolved from what was originally a marshy landscape.
Visitors can explore the marsh along designated trails at its edge. Observation towers offer a view of the protected area without disturbing the sensitive ecosystem.
The Bissendorfer Moor combines nature experiences with conservation efforts and is a popular destination for day trips in the Holiday Region of Hannover.
