Map of the Hiking Trail Through the Deister

From hut to hut in the Deister

You don’t necessarily have to go to the Alps to go on a hut-to-hut hike. You can also do this kind of tour in the Deister, though the huts there aren’t staffed and you can’t stay overnight. The shelters in the forest invite you to take a break with a packed lunch and are located in picturesque spots. A hike of this kind is recommended along the route from Wennigser Mark to Bredenbeck (or Steinkrug) in the eastern Deister.

Nature experiences on the hut hike

This hike takes you through the forests of five different landowners. The trail is varied, well-marked, and of moderate difficulty, offering a glimpse into the predominantly mixed deciduous forest with new reforestation efforts and attempts to introduce new tree species to the Deister. Hikers can feel the power of the trees and the beauty of nature in the Deister. Along the trails, you can still see many remnants of the former coal mining industry in the Deister.

You can find more information here.

The Norddeister is easily accessible by S-Bahn and bus. You can use the Regiobus to get to and from this hut hike.
