Wasserpark-Wennigsen Natural Swimming Area (Deister)

With a swimming area of almost 2,000 square meters, the water park is one of the largest natural swimming lakes in Germany. When it opened in 2000, it was the first of its kind in northern Germany. A regeneration pond with its special range of native aquatic plants ensures that the water is purified naturally without the need for chemicals. With countless aquatic plants, it ensures that the water retains drinking water quality even with 2,000 swimmers per day. There is also an ornamental and spring pond with a size of 300 square meters and, of course, the actual bathing pond with 2,000 square meters of water surface. The rest of the 20,000 square meter facility consists of sunbathing lawns. The treated water returns to the large bathing pond via the spring pond. This is divided into a swimmers' area and a non-swimmers' area. All around are extensive sunbathing lawns surrounded by trees. There is also a diving rock, a swimming island and a small waterfall. In addition to some play equipment, there is a large sandy area for children, which can be transformed into a large muddy field with the help of a child-safe water pump. Sporty visitors can also let off steam on the beach volleyball court. The facilities also include changing rooms and a restaurant with a café terrace.
