When the first snow of the year falls, children's eyes light up—it's time to hit the slopes again. But adults love to hop on a sled, too. Here is a list of sledding hills in Wennigsen and the surrounding area:
Wennigsen:
- At the Waldkater: End of Hülsebrinkstraße. From the hiking parking lot, follow the main trail uphill to the Tellerkurve (2–3 km). From the mountain hut, you can sled downhill almost all the way back to the starting point. (Suitable for families—wide slope)
Wennigser Mark:
- At Georgsplatz: You can hike to the Annaturm along the road. After about 3 km, you’ll find the first sledding spot on this route—a long sledding run with a moderate incline. (Family-friendly)
- On Bierweg: Description – see Georgsplatz
- Waldwinkel: Sled hike starting from the Waldwinkel hiking parking lot (at the end of Wennigser Mark heading toward Egestorf), initially steeply uphill to the Schleifbachhütte. From the shelter in the Schleifbachhütte area, there is a good downhill run along the same route. You can also walk or ski downhill along the loop trail from there, though it is a gentle descent. (This route is well-suited for cross-country skiing.)
Bredenbeck:
- Reiteranger: There are two great options here: either take the children down the mining spoil heaps for a short, steep sledding run (right near the edge of the forest), or hike up the wide avenue (starting from the Reiteranger parking lot) and sled down from there. The trail to the Taternpfahl (2–3 km) also offers a good, relatively steep descent.
Argestorf:
- Lübecker Straße: From the hiking parking lot, head straight into the Deister and, after about 1 km, turn right and hike uphill (the Lehmbrink—the old classic Wennigser sledding trail!). The descent is also suitable for cross-country skiers and families. Moderate incline.
