Rare frescoes, four altars, and Romanesque architecture in Sigward Church.
Something like this is a rarity throughout Central Europe! What Bishop Sigward of Minden—who served from 1120 to 1140 and was of Saxon noble descent—had built here is unique, if only for its frescoes.
Four altars adorn the small hall church. Storks have made their nests here. Those who set out on a pilgrimage follow the Sigwardsweg, a ten-stage route, to Minden.
The exterior of the church Sigwardskirche is characterized by carefully carved ashlar stones and the clean lines of Romanesque architecture. The rich wall and ceiling paintings are among the most beautiful and best-preserved examples of Romanesque art. The church Sigwardskirche is open year-round from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Those interested in guided group tours may contact the parish at any time.
