Tips and information

Steinhude’s Sculpture Promenade Museums

Right on the shores of Lake Steinhude, you'll find a museum dedicated to the history of fishing and weaving, which also houses a toy museum.

Museum of Fishing and Weaving History

A typical Steinhude house from 1850, complete with its furnishings, was converted into a museum: living, housing, and working all under one roof.

In terms of its layout—entrance hall, parlor, kitchen, living and work room, bedroom, pantry, and courtyard with stables—the building largely reflects the architectural style of the period in which it was built. The house’s original furnishings thus provide insight into the living and economic conditions of a typical Steinhude family over the past 100 years. The interior of the house clearly shows that fishing, weaving, farming, and daily life were all combined under one roof here.

In addition to the history of fishing, the exhibition also features rare woven textiles spanning three centuries.

Toy Museum

The adjacent toy museum was previously housed in the Scheunenviertel district of Steinhude. It chronicles the colorful world of childhood
and the evolution of toys, presenting a broad cross-section of all major types of toys from the 19th and 20th centuries
. The carefully selected, and in some cases unique, exhibits are displayed in over 30 display cases within one historic barn and two reconstructed barns that are connected to one another.

Special exhibitions and event days are also held annually.
