The city library was the first library tower in Europe.
Hannover City Library
The library was built between 1929 and 1931 according to plans by City Architect Karl Elkart. Since there was not much space available, the library was built vertically rather than horizontally. This resulted in Europe’s first ten-story library tower. The building was constructed in the Brick Expressionist style. The library houses approximately 965,000 media items.
