Springe Hunting Lodge

On the northern side of the Kleiner Deister, the royal family of Hannover had the Jagdschloss Springe built.

Whenever the royal hunt was called, the royal family stayed at Jagdschloss Springe.

The castle was built between 1838 and 1842, based in part on plans by G. F. L. Laves, as a hunting lodge for the royal family of Hannover. The royal hunting grounds were the Saupark, which, following a court ruling against the king in 1835 regarding damage caused by game, had to be enclosed by a wall.

Even after 1866, there were court hunts every two years, and Kaiser Wilhelm II in particular liked to come here. Today, a permanent exhibition on nature and hunting can be seen on the first floor of the hunting lodge.
