Maschsee Festival 2026: Halfway Through

The 2026 Maschsee Festival continues on its path to success: After the first ten days of the event, Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG) has issued a positive interim report. Despite changeable weather conditions on several days, approximately 1,040,000 visitors have come to the Maschsee so far. The day with the highest attendance was the first Saturday, with approximately 230,000 guests.

After a nearly perfect start with the 2026 Finals in Hannover and mostly summery weather, light rain on Sunday and Monday, as well as an official severe weather warning on Thursday, led to some restrictions. For safety reasons, the Maschseefest didn’t open until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. Two stages remained closed, and other program items had to be adjusted at the last minute.

“We’re very pleased to have had more than a million guests over the course of ten days. Of course, the weather has a huge impact on attendance. Thursday in particular, with the severe weather warning, posed major challenges for everyone involved. However, the safety of our guests is our top priority, so the decision to open the festival later was the right one. Now we’re looking forward to the remaining days of the festival and hope for many summery hours by the lake,” says André Lawiszus, HVG Managing Director.

Restaurant owners, too, are largely giving a positive interim assessment. Demir Cesar from the Musikpark at the Maschseequelle (west bank) reports: “We’re once again pleasantly surprised this year by how many people are coming to visit us at the Maschseequelle. The atmosphere is excellent, and we can only give a positive interim assessment. Although we had to cancel a table quiz due to the weather, the community is flexible, and we found an alternative date for next week right away. The shaded spots provided by the surrounding trees are a real bonus on hot days.”

The results on the Südufer are also positive. Irish Folk owner Annalena Kolberg is pleased to report more guests so far than last year and speculates that the finals may have helped new guests discover the Südufer for themselves. “Many people appreciate the somewhat quieter atmosphere here, with Irish music and good food. The only real disappointment was the second Thursday, when we had to cancel several large reservations due to the severe weather warning.”

Philip Lutz from the Weinbar Gegenüber on the north shore shares a similar assessment of how things have gone so far: “Overall, we’re very satisfied so far. The weather-related restrictions on the first Sunday and Monday were a shame, but those days aren’t among the busiest for the Maschsee Festival anyway. On Thursday, we had to cancel about 300 reservations due to the severe weather warning and the resulting later opening time—that cost us quite a bit in terms of stress and lost revenue. At the same time, we fully understand that safety is the top priority. We’re trying to make the best of it and are looking forward to the remaining days of the festival with optimism.”

There has also been positive feedback from the east bank. “The first weekend and the warm, summery Wednesday drew large crowds. As long as the weather and other conditions cooperate, we’re very satisfied. From a culinary perspective, the finals during the first four days of the Maschsee Festival didn’t bring us many additional guests. But they were a huge boon for the atmosphere at the lake and for Hannover as a whole,” says Sascha Casado of Ohana Beach. 

Through August 9, visitors can continue to enjoy a varied program featuring international cuisine, live music, and numerous events around Maschsee.

Highlights of the remaining festival days include, among other things, the traditional NKR Duck Race for charity on the north shore (August 1, 4:00–6:00 p.m., north shore) and the traditional torchlight swim (August 8, starting at 9:30 p.m., north shore). In addition, numerous concerts and live performances on stages around the lake will keep the festival atmosphere going right through the final day of the event.
