Ascent to the Dome of Hanover's New City Hall: Last Chance for a Panoramic View This Year

Until November 15, visitors can still take the arc-shaped elevator up the tower in the New City Hall. The winter break is expected to end on March 5.

Last chance to enjoy the view over Hanover: Through Sunday, November 15, visitors to Lower Saxony’s capital can take the unique arched elevator up to the 98-meter-high dome of the New City Hall—and enjoy the view over Hanover. Due to weather conditions, the winter break will begin after that. The break is necessary for safety reasons, as the stairs on the platform can become too slippery in frost and snow. Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG) will use this time to perform maintenance on the elevator. The arch-shaped elevator is expected to resume operation on March 5, 2016.

This season, more than 94,000 visitors from Hanover and around the world took the elevator up to the City Hall dome. For example, guests from the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Russia, China, Japan, Israel, and even Madagascar and Kyrgyzstan enjoyed the breathtaking view.

For the last time this year, visitors can ride up the nearly 98-meter-high, gilded town hall dome this week—first vertically and then at a 17-degree angle. A window in the cabin’s roof allows passengers to watch the ride unfold up close. Another window in the floor of the cabin can be made transparent at the push of a button—so a special thrill is guaranteed. Once at the top, a fantastic view of Lower Saxony’s state capital unfolds.

Bogen Elevator Hours: Through November 15, weekdays starting at 9:30 a.m., Saturdays and Sundays starting at 10:00 a.m. The last ride is at 6:00 p.m. Note: During the winter break, the opening hours of the visitor information desk at the New City Hall will change: Starting Monday, November 16, it will be open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
