The season for tower tours is not expected to begin until late April

Due to weather-related damage to the facade, the curved dome lift will not be able to reopen to visitors until the end of April, according to current plans. Following the winter months, spalling of tuff and mortar was discovered in the curved dome lift’s waiting and entrance areas. The City of Hannover is currently reviewing the necessary work to secure and repair the damaged sections of the facade and will begin the work shortly.

Background: The curved dome lift in the New City Hall

Last year, approximately 98,000 visitors took the curved dome lift up to the dome of City Hall. In addition to residents of Hannover, many visitors from the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Japan, Spain, and the Netherlands enjoyed the breathtaking view.

The curved dome lift is the only one of its kind in the world: Visitors first travel vertically and then at a 17-degree angle up to the nearly 98-meter-high, gilded dome of City Hall. A window in the cabin’s roof allows passengers to follow the ride’s progress up close. Another window in the floor of the cabin can be made transparent at the push of a button. Once at the top, a fantastic view of Lower Saxony’s state capital unfolds.
