A wide range of cultural activities and exciting events
The Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, which were awarded the Garden Prize for the best historic garden in Europe in 2015, serve as the setting each year for high-profile events such as the KunstFestSpiele and the International Fireworks Competition.
As a UNESCO City of Music, the city hosts a wide variety of events every year across all musical genres—from pop and rock to jazz, early music, classical, and contemporary music.
The State Theater of Hannover, with its opera and drama departments, ranks among the nation’s best. Numerous private theaters featuring exciting productions ranging from light entertainment to avant-garde theater are also part of the city’s cultural scene. With unique exhibits and spectacular exhibitions, Hannover is considered a major art and museum hub—the internationally renowned Sprengel Museum, the Museum August Kestner, the Kestnergesellschaft, the Wilhelm Busch – German Museum of Caricature and Drawing, and the Lower Saxony State Museum are all part of this, as are attractions in the surrounding vacation region, such as Marienburg Castle. Nationally known events, such as the three-week Maschseefest or the world’s largest Marksmen´s Fair, also contribute to Hannover’s appeal.
Green metropolis
With attractive local recreational areas right in the heart of the city, such as the Maschsee or the Eilenriede—Europe’s largest urban forest—we are among Germany’s greenest cities. Hannover is also the “Federal Capital of Nature Conservation” and one of Germany’s leading regions in climate protection. The Deister in the south, the Steinhuder Meer in the west, and the heathland in the north round out this extremely diverse recreational area.
Quality of Housing & Life
Satisfaction with the quality of housing and life in Hanover remains high, with 90 percent of all residents saying they enjoy living in Hanover (“very much” or “quite a bit”). Work-life balance: experiencing nature while enjoying all the benefits of city life. This is a given in the Hanover region—and ensures a high quality of life. Innovative residential developments featuring low-energy and passive-house construction, along with housing prices that are attractive by national standards, reinforce the area’s appeal as a great place to live.
Central location, proximity / amenities
The Hannover economic region benefits from its central location within the European transportation network. The A2 and A7 highways intersect here, forming the most important east-west and north-south road connections. The airport and Deutsche Bahn’s ICE network provide direct connections to all major domestic and international metropolitan areas. The Greater Hanover Transport Association (GVH) serves over 200 million passengers annually via public transportation. The GVH’s route network offers a high level of comfort—including for passengers with limited mobility—and optimally coordinated connections throughout the region.
