Linden trees

Students, professionals, bon vivants, and eccentrics—for all of them, the street is practically a living room. Bars, cafés, kiosks, and restaurants can be found on every corner; Béi Chéz Heinz, Café Glocksee, and the Faust Cultural Center form the party triangle.  And Linden is a hidden gem for shopping: Many small boutiques and shops offer looks and accessories that only a laid-back neighborhood can produce.

Attractions in Linden include the Warmen Brüder, the Ihme-Zentrum, Béi Chéz Heinz, Schwarzer Bär, Am Küchengarten, the Fährmannsfest, the Mephisto, the Dornröschenbrücke, and Café K.

City life

Linden itself is divided into four districts: Linden-Süd, Linden-Mitte, Linden-Nord, and Limmer. Linden-Limmer and Linden-Nord—with its Limmerstraße—in particular are considered “vibrant neighborhoods” with a rich and diverse cultural life.

Limmerstraße is a hive of colorful activity; everyone feels welcome here. The residents of Linden especially flock to the weekly market at Linden Market Square and the farmers’ market at Schmuckplatz. 

Nature

Linden also wins people’s hearts with its scenic spots. Especially in the spring, the scilla flowers bloom at the Lindener Bergfriedhof cemetery. The banks of the Leine and Ihme rivers are perfect for walking and biking.

Culture

This district is characterized by a long tradition of political culture, whose historical roots in Linden lie in the labor movement. Even today, demonstrations against far-right groups continue to take place.

The joint events under the theme “150 Years of Young Linden—Living in Solidarity—Learning—Debating—Singing” (10 years of the AhrbergViertel Community Association, 20 years of the FAUST Cultural Center, 30 years of the DGB Choir, 40 years of the Linden Integrated Comprehensive School, 50 years of the Linden Recreation Center) in 2011 reflect not only social and cultural development but also the architectural changes of the postwar era. 

Culinary

Linden delights food lovers with its many different cafés, bars, and restaurants, such as Café K, Frioli, Rias Baixas, Street Kitchen, Francesca & Fratelli, Bei Jacqueline, GiG, Centrum, ...and the Big Bad Wolf.

Nightlife

Linden also has plenty to offer when it comes to nightlife: the Faust Cultural Center, Café Glocksee, and Béi Chéz Heinz & Lux are all popular spots. Especially in the summer, the streets are bustling, and people gather at various spots that are well-known even beyond Linden’s neighborhood boundaries.

Shopping

When it comes to shopping, there’s plenty to experience here. Whether you’re young or old, there’s something for everyone in Linden—whether at the Frau Zimmer clothing store, HutUp, Riva—Home Accessories & Jewelry, the “Frühling bitte” studio, or Michel Kiryakos Goldsmiths. Above all, Linden is known for its sustainable and regional organic products, as well as alternative styles and handmade jewelry.
