The skilled trades sector is a key driver of the economy and employment in Hanover. Approximately 53,500 people work in some 6,200 skilled trades businesses, accounting for about 10% of total employment in the region. The most important sectors include construction and finishing trades, health care, personal care and cleaning, and the metalworking industry. As a catalyst for innovation, the skilled trades sector also has an impact beyond its own industry, notably through the Heinz-Piest Institute. One in five apprentices in the region is training in the skilled trades, supported by the Training Center of the Hanover Chamber of Skilled Trades.
