The venue for the youth division of Schauspiel Hannover and the Hanover State Opera.
Ballhof One
Ballhof Eins is located in Hannover’s Old Town and serves primarily as a venue for the youth division of Schauspiel Hannover and the Hannover State Opera. The program features classics in new adaptations as well as new plays by young playwrights and unconventional works. While the venue seats 300 people indoors, the Ballhofplatz square outside the door also hosts music events, such as “Jazz am Ballhof.”
Ballhofplatz, located in the heart of the Old Town, is a significant and historic square. The surrounding cafés, restaurants, and small shops housed in half-timbered buildings make Ballhofplatz a relaxing retreat.

Schauspielhaus: The program

The Ballhof was built between 1649 and 1664 on the site of the former St. Gallen Court under Duke Georg Wilhelm. It was originally used as a sports hall for the ball game that was popular at the time. Later on, the Ballhof was sold several times. Until World War II, it was used for a variety of purposes, including as a meeting hall, movie theater, auction house, furniture warehouse, and performance venue.
After the Ballhof resumed its use as a theater, Thilo Mucke oversaw the modernization of the auditorium and stage in 1975, as well as the construction of a new lobby. In 1992, the Ballhof was replaced by the Schauspielhaus on Prinzenstraße as the main venue for Schauspiel Hannover and was repurposed as the “small theater.”
